tataḥ pratyak-cetanā-adhigamaḥ-api-antarāya-abhāvaḥ ca

ततः प्रत्यक्चेतनाधिगमोऽप्यन्तरायाभवश्च

From that turning inwards consciousness is attained and also the non-appearance of the interventions


tatas - hence, from that

pratyak - turning inwards

cetanā - consciousness

adhigama - attained

api - even, also, very; something more; moreover

antarāya - intervention, obstacle

abhāva - non-appearance, non-existence, absence

ca - and


Commentary by T Krishnamacharya:

“It is through Praṇavo Japam that the true nature of the Jīva is realised.”


Commentary by TKV Desikachar:

“The more you try to know Īśvara, the more you come to know your self.”

“If you don’t know yourself how can you think of something which is more than you or higher than you?”

“From that turning inwards, awareness is attained and the non-appearance of the interventions.”
